Shivasamudram

Trip: Bangalore > Shivasamudram > Bangalore

We planned the one day trip to Shivasamudram well in advance. It was an extended weekend so Kishore had no problem. Nidhi was the mastermind behind the planning. We started early morning on 16th August, 2009 for Kanakpura Road. The distance to cover was 160 kilometers ans we were expecting ourselves at the waterfall by 12 noon. Shivasamudram is one of the largest waterfalls in India in terms of throughput of water.

We reached at the spot on time only to realize that it was not exactly the waterfall but a spot from where we could see it in full flow. We drove back to NH 209 and reached the waterfall. It was crowded and commercialized. Somehow these two things sap the most beautiful of places from their charm. We sat at a place where sprinkles of water were coming towards us now and then. the fall was milky white due to its sheer velocity.

Shivasamudram is actually made up of two falls, Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki, some 4 kilometers apart. We then moved to Bhara Chukki. It is much wider and panoramic. We stayed there for some time appreciating the work of nature. It was time to return. We halted at a place which was kind of a reservoir and ate a delicious lunch which Nidhi had prepared and packed along. We were back to the city by the 6 PM.
